Welcome to My Blog

Welcome to my blog. I can't imagine the covered wagon days, when it took several weeks to move yourself across the country. I can't imagine trying to get a letter to a friend during the pony express. The angst that I feel just thinking about it makes me thankful for the bright minds and creativity of the developers of internet communications.

Technology has come so far since I was a little girl. I remember that my ex-husband thought that my family was rich because we had a color TV! Okay, I'm aging myself. But, I also remember that my son thought the world was gray when I was a child as he watched a black and white TV at my parents home.

We've come a long way, baby!!

Now, I can speak to you from across the globe in a matter of seconds. Welcome to my blog and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.

Yeah, you know I was just talking to some of the kids on the high school football team that I coach and they were listening to music that I remembered hearing when I was around their age. I forget the name of the song, but the lyrics said something about a pager. I stopped and thought to myself, "Wow! I remember when I had my first pager." I shared with the kids about my first pager and how I had to listen to a tape player with headphones before cd players and Ipods came out. I felt really old. It's amazing how far technology has come just in the short time I have been alive. And at this rate, who knows what's next?

It is amazing how technology is ever evolving. I know I'm really dating myself when I tell my nieces and nephews that college computer classes were in its infancy stage in the late '70s and early '80s. Wish I had jumped on that bandwagon. I felt like a "fish out of water" when interacting with fellow classmates in a marketing program I just completed. The only good that will come out of it is as technology continues to evolve, they too will feel somewhat disconnected from 20-year-olds when they are in their
40s. Oh, the sweet revenge!

To Valerie: I wanted to inform you that your omen of what was to come has already happened to me with my own teenager. I was just entering the workforce when the internet became a public entity and since that time I really thought I was on top of stuff being a web developer and all. Well fast forward 14 yrs and now I find it increasingly difficult to even communicate with my son because acronyms they use while texting and on instant messenger have become a spoken language! LOL, I was so ROFL...

Dead serious, this is not just a prank based upon the Verizon commercials, kids are really TALKING like this now!

I even get messages with just the simple "..." - and who would have known that three dots actually translated into something English that I'm supposed to respond to? I thought only computers did that?? *smile*

just a witness: YKTR! (You know that's right) I figure if this generation can make up an abbreviated language, so can I -- even if I am the only one who knows what it means. It really messes with my nieces and nephews' heads. Drives them CRAZY! :)

In spite of the difficulty in trying to keep up, I'm glad to be a part of this technological phenomenon. Lord, what would I do without Google and social networks? How did we survive? (Although, I think 45-year-olds and older have the best of both worlds.)
